SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Javonte Young paced the offense for the Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team last night with 20 points as the Titans defeated Indiana University Northwest 81-74 to move to 3-1 on the season.
On the defensive end of the court, the Titans forced the Red Hawks into 19 turnovers resulting in 19 points.
After somewhat of a quick start, the Titans offense went cold as the Red Hawks offense heated up and extended its lead to 35-22 with just over six minutes to play in the opening half. However, a 22-8 run to close out the half put IU South Bend in front 44-41 at the break.
At the start of the second half both teams traded baskets and IUN eventually regained the lead on a three pointer from Darrius Davis. Young gave the Titans the lead back midway through the final frame as he scored four consecutive points.
With just over five minutes remaining Ward knocked down a three to put the Titans ahead by six and that would be all they needed as the defense took over down the stretch and held the Red Hawks to just five points for the rest of the game.
The back-and-forth contest featured 20 lead changes and seven ties.
The Titans have a ten day layoff before they travel to Wright State University-Lake on November 14th. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
