Down 49-42 with seven minutes to play, IU South Bend rallied to take a 58-56 lead over Georgetown (KY) inside the final minutes, but four empty possessions by the Titans and two Tiger baskets gave Georgetown a 60-58 win, dropping the Titans to 12-4 on the year. Katie Hacker (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central HS) led the way with 13 points for IU South Bend, while Lizzie Stapke (Highland, IN/Highland HS) added ten.

After a nip-and-tuck first few minutes, the Titans found themselves trailing by six late in the first half, and Georgetown used a pair of triples by Jessica Waddle to open up a 33-27 edge. After the teams traded a free throw apiece, Hacker was able to convert an unorthodox four-point possession - hitting a three-pointer from the top of the key and then converting one of a pair of free throws - to bring the halftime margin to 34-32.

Out of the break, the teams traded the lead several times before the Tigers went on a run to push to the 49-42 mark, the largest lead for either team in the contest. Over the next several minutes, the Titans got three-point baskets from Courtney Simpson (Nappanee, IN/NorthWood HS) and Hacker as they first cut the lead to a single possession and then snatched it for themselves with under three minutes to play, with Hacker's triple giving them a 58-56 edge.

From there, the Titans were unable to score, and after a putback basket by Georgetown tied the game at 58, the stage was set for the final minute. Another Titan miss, followed by one of the same from the Tigers put the ball in the possession of the Titans' Tiffanie Graham (South Bend, IN/Riley HS) with thirty seconds remaining. Graham brought the ball into the front court, but her driving shot slid off the rim and Georgetown was able to corral the rebound and owned the final possession.

After a foul with ten seconds to play, the Tigers triggered off the baseline, and after a miss and a scramble, the ball ended up in the hands of Mikkah Rogers, who was able to lay the winning basket in with six seconds to play. The Titans raced the ball into the frontcourt, but an Ashley Hummer (South Bend, IN/Mishawaka Marian HS) triple from the corner was both late and off the mark, and the Tigers eked out the two-point win.

Stapke led the way on the glass for the Titans, pulling down seven caroms, while Simpson added five boards to eight points.

The Titans return to action on Tuesday, January 12 when they jump back into Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play by hosting Robert Morris (IL). That contest is set to tip off at 7:00 PM at the Student Activities Center.

Milestone Watch: By scoring 13 points in the contest, junior forward Katie Hacker edged closer to 1,000 for her career, with her total now standing at 952. With 48 more points, she would become just the 11th member of that exclusive club at IU South Bend.
