SOUTH BEND, Ind. – 42 points from the bench helped propel the Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team to an 86-81 victory over St. Ambrose University on Saturday afternoon. The win marks the 10th of the season for the Titans, just two wins shy of matching last season's total.
Javonte Young (SR/Mishawaka, Ind.) added 13 points and grabbed a team-high seven boards.
All 10 players who saw action scored in the win.
The game remained tight during the first part of the opening frame but a five minute stretch towards the end of the half saw SAU go on a 13-3 run to build its lead to 35-23.
IU South Bend kept its composure and answered with a 10-0 run of its own to get within two points of the Fighting Bees lead with 1:45 to play in the first half. SAU scored the final basket of the half to take a four point advantage into the break.
A three-point basket from Jacoby Posley put the Fighting Bees in front by 11 with under 15 minutes left in the game. The Titans began chipping away at the SAU lead over the next seven minutes and regained the lead when Beacher Ward (SR/Indianapolis, Ind. ) hit a layup to put the Titans up by one.
Sutton hit a clutch triple to extend the IU South Bend lead to nine points with 4:48 showing on the clock.
SAU put up a fight down the stretch but Mark White (SR/Muncie, Ind.) converted six free throws in the final minute to seal the victory for the Titans.
The Titans will get a week's rest before returning to action against the University of Miami-Middletown on December 19th. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
