MIDDLETOWN, OHIO – Leading by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Indiana University men's basketball team let one slip away, falling to Miami University-Middletown 64-62 on Saturday afternoon. T.J. Benner (SO/Mishawaka, Ind.) and Javonte Young (SR/Mishawaka, Ind.) led the Titans with 11 points each in the loss.
Jeremy Jones (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) drained a triple at the 13:26 mark and the Titans never trailed for the duration of the first frame. Joe Bannister (FR/Crown Point, Ind. ) gave IU South Bend its first double digit lead of the contest with a triple of his own with less than 10 minutes to play in the opening half.
Over the next four minutes the ThunderHawks went on an 11-2 run to slice the IU South Bend lead to just one point with over five minutes to play.
IU South Bend finished the half with a 15-5 run to take a 36-25 advantage into the break.
Benner put the Titans in front by 15 with a three-pointer off a Taylor Brooks (SO/Granger, Ind.) offensive rebound, a lead that would be the largest of the game for IU South Bend.
With 7:43 to play in the game, MU-M took its first lead since the opening minutes of the game on a layup from Donte Clark.
Both teams traded baskets down the stretch but it was the ThunderHawks who would get the final opportunity with seven seconds remaining as Germaine Britten converted a layup to give MU-M the two-point victory.
The loss moves the Titans to 10-4 on the season.
The Titans will host the University of Cincinnati-Clermont on December 29th for their final non-conference contest of the season. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
