The Titans rank 11th in the country in three-point field goals made per game and 8th in three-point field goals made and it showed in the first 10 minutes of action as they connected on 4-of-6 from long distance, three of which came from Myluv Sutton (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind. ) who scored 13 points during that span. The IU South Bend shooting cooled off from deep as they went just 1-of-5 for the remainder of the half.
However, over the final 10 minutes of the half the Fighting Saints came roaring back by way of a 25-8 run to bring USF to a 37-37 deadlock heading into the break.
Both teams traded baskets up until the score was square at 46-all but Joe Bannister broke the tie and gave the Titans a two-point lead with a steal and a lay-up at the other end. But after an IU South Bend turnover the Saints once again tied the game at 48 with a dunk from Logan Timmons. Bannister followed up the USF dunk with a triple followed by another one from Taylor Brooks (SO/Granger, Ind.) to give IU South Bend a four-point advantage.
With just over four minutes to play in the game the Titans were trailing the Saints 67-58 and battled to get back within two points of the USF lead but playing against the clock the Titans had no choice but to foul. The Fighting Saints converted their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory over the Titans.
The Titans knocked down just two three's in the final 20 minutes and converted just 14-of-23 free throws in the loss.
The schedule doesn't get lighter for the Titans as they welcome Robert Morris University to the Student Activities Center on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET.
