SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team kicks off the final month of the regular season with an 87-69 victory over Trinity Christian College on Wednesday night. Javonte Young (SR/Mishawaka, Ind.) lead four Titans in double-figures with a game-high 21 points 15 of which came from downtown. IU South Bend connected on 15 triples to shot at a 45 percent clip in the win.
For the first 14 minutes of the contest the score stayed tight but Jeremy Jones (SO/Fort Wayne, Ind.) flipped that script very quickly as he came off the bench and nailed three triples to put the Titans in front by 10 with just over three minutes left in the opening half. The Trolls were able to slice away at the Titan lead but Young turned a Jones steal into two points to send IU South Bend into the half with a 46-36 cushion.
The 3's continued to fall for the Titans at the start of the second half as Young sandwiched two Mark White (SR/Muncie, Ind.) free throws to put the Titans ahead by 16 points. Myluv Sutton (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind. ) added to the IU South Bend lead with a triple of his own to put the Titans up by 21 points, their largest lead of the contest.
TCC wasn't going away easy as they were able to cut their deficit to 10 points with over seven minutes left in the game. Brandon Beam (SR/Borden, Ind.) scored the next five points to put the Titans back on top by 15 points.
Trailing by 16 the Trolls drained back-to-back 3's to once again cutting its deficit to 10 points but that would be as close as they got as the Titan defense withstood the TCC charge to pick up its 15th win of the season.
Riley Sticther finished with 10 points while Taylor Brooks (SO/Granger, Ind.) added 13 in the win.
Next up for the Titans will be Purdue Calumet on Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. in Hammond.
