HAMMOND, Ind. – Riley Stichter (SR/Milford, Ind.) and Javonte Young (SR/Mishawaka, Ind.) combined for 40 points on Saturday as the Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team defeated Purdue University Calumet 75-63. The Titans shot 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from long distance to move to 16-10 overall on the season and 9-8 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Titans led for 37:53 of the 40:00 and the only lead the Peregrines held was the opening basket of the game at the 19:02 mark.
It didn't take long for the Titans to build an early lead as Stichter scored six points in the first nine minutes of the game to put IU South Bend in front by 10. PUC cut its deficit to single digits on multiple occasions but the Titans offense continued to answer and boost their lead back to double digits. Young converted a free throw to end the half and send IU South Bend into the break with a 13 points advantage.
IU South Bend kept a steady pace in the second half building their lead as large as 16 points. Rashaan Jackson (FR/Warsaw, Ind.) drained a triple with 21 seconds but the Peregrines nailed a jumper with 11 seconds left as the Titans earned the victory.
The Titans will travel to Calumet College of St. Joseph on Wednesday in a pivotal CCAC tilt with the Crimson Wave. In their last meeting CCSJ came away from the Student Activities Center with a 74-69 victory. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
