SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Indiana University South Bend men's basketball team had a tough task at hand in their regular season finale as the No. 2 ranked University of St. Francis came to town on Saturday. It was a close contest for most of the game but it was the Fighting Saints who came out on top with some big baskets down the stretch to sink the Titans 81-67. The loss moved the Titans to 17-13 overall and 10-9 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Myluv Sutton (FR/Fort Wayne, Ind. ) carried the scoring load for IU South Bend netting a team-high 20 points to go with six rebounds. Riley Stichter (SR/Milford, Ind.) scored 13 points in his final game at the Student Activities Center including a thunderous dunk early in the first half.
After spotting the Fighting Saints seven points the Titans went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at nine. Just minutes later Joe Bannister (FR/Crown Point, Ind. ) drained a step-back triple to give IU South Bend a seven point cushion.
USF evened the game at 28 with 3:44 left in the half but IU South Bend finished the half on a 9-2 run to take a 37-30 lead over the Fighting Saints at halftime.
Four minutes into the second frame Titans lead diminished and the game once again was tied. Joe Bannister converted a lay up to give IU South Bend a four point lead midway through the half but just as they had done the whole game, USF fought back and evened the game.
Bannister brought the game back to even with 5:57 to play but the Fighting Saints outscored the Titans 21-7 over the final five minutes of the contest to seal the victory.
Bannister finished with 12 points off the bench for the Titans.
The Titans secured the seven seed in the CCAC Tournament and will travel to Olivet Nazarene University on Wednesday.
