ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – Indiana University South Bend men's basketball's historic run came to an end on Tuesday night as they lost a tough battle at Robert Morris University. It was a close game for the duration but the Titans fell just short losing 88-85.
Joe Bannister did all he could as he netted a team-high 25 points in the loss. Jeremy Jones added 19 points while Taylor Brooks chipped in with 14 points. Senior Javonte Young netted 13 points in his final game in a Titan uniform.
The first half lived up to its championship expectations as neither team held a lead larger than three points for the first 20 minutes of action. Sophomore Jeremy Jones provided some quality minutes in the first half as he scored 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. However, it was the Eagles who would close the half out on a 7-3 run to take a 39-35 advantage into the break.
RMU started the second half on a 15-4 run to extend its lead to 54-39 with 15 minutes to play in the game. IU South Bend pick up its pressure over the next four minutes and sliced into the Eagles lead, trailing 62-56 with just over 11 minutes left in the contest.
Taylor Brooks drained a triple from the corner to even the game at 71 a-piece but it continued to be a back-and-forth affair. With just over one minute to play RMU hit a 3-pointer to break an 83-all tie. That would be the dagger for the Titans as they had to resort to fouling with 8.6 seconds left to play and trailing by three. RMU cashed in on their opportunities at the free throw line to capture the CCAC Tournament Championship and a bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Titans end the season with an overall record of 19-14.
